Athena LaTocha (b. Anchorage, Alaska) is an artist whose massive works on paper explore the relationship between human-made and natural worlds. Combining found elements with those fashioned by my own hand, my work encompasses two- and three-dimensional collage as well as sculptural objects. This color reduction woodcut is produced using three carved woodblocks, each of which is recarved multiple times for each layer of color on the print. This impression has gone through the press sixteen times, resulting in a complex range of colors, including the untouched white of the page, single hues, and colors produced by several transparent layers of ink.
